“We apologize about our recent Pandemic Effect film. Thank you for being gracious in letting us know your thoughts about it.
“We hear you. You helped us see what we failed to see, which is that the film is insensitive and upsetting. Because of this, we have taken the ad down.
“We commit ourselves to learning from this and bringing our learnings into the future.”
“Let’s talk about what’s wrong with the Belo ad. It’s not the pandemic, Dra,” aniya. “It’s society’s beauty standards and the way capitalists ride on it to exploit our insecurities.
“It’s the way you make it look like our fatness is a disease and your clinic can cure it away.”

“Saw the latest ad for Belo Medical. Read the room. Promote your services, but not at the expense of people’s insecurities,” pahayag n’ya.
“We’re in a pandemic, and we’re all just trying to survive. The last thing people need is an ad that points out body changes. Distasteful and insensitive.”

“[A]ng lakingg trigger for me nung ad ng Belo p***ngina!!!” sey ng netizen. “[D]i nyo alam HOW MUCH COURAGE IT CAN TAKE JUST TO GET OUT OF BED, DO DAILY TASKS WITHOUT GETTING TIRED. EVEN TAKING A BATH AND EATING GET SO EXHAUSTING TAPOS MANGBOBODY SHAME????? WTFF IS UP WITH THAT AD!!!!! #pandemiceffect”

Not a SINGLE person involved in that Belo ad had any qualms about it? It wasn’t just a choice, it was a series of choices made by dozens of people.

Here’s something for those triggered by that insensitive Belo ad. So sorry you had to go through it.
“The coronavirus changed so much about our lives, including, for many of us, our bodies. It’s OK.”https://t.co/k0LIDwulzU

Thoughts on the Belo Medical #PandemicEffect ad:
The pandemic is stressful enough as it is and preying on consumers’ insecurities isn’t helping either. To paraphrase and add to the words of the beautiful @143redangel—“Ang katawan at ang mukhang ito ay marami nang pinagdaanan”.

The Belo ad campaign should have not seen the light of day. But whatever, it didn’t even come with a trigger warning on body dysmorphia.
I have never felt bad about myself and my well-being until this ad — tone-deaf and insensitive.
