As of this writing, LITZ’s impressive “Natataranta” music video has already registered nearly 400K views on YouTube. Not bad for a newbie girl group whose pretty members—Ashtine, Yumi, Heart, Bianca, and Fatima—spent the 2021 on-and-off lockdowns learning how to follow G-Force’s visually appealing-but-hard-to-execute choreography.
The girls literally just landed on G-Force head Georcelle Dapat-Sy’s lap.
May na-handpick na si Boss Vic del Rosario ng Viva and he talked to Teacher G—as Georcelle is known in showbiz—para i-train ang mga girls.
“No’ng kinausap ako Boss Vic, sabi niya, ‘You’ve been training the biggest stars—Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, Billy Crawford, James Reid…why not give that kind of training to LITZ and we’ll take it from there,’” K’wento ni Teacher G sa press during LITZ’s debut mediacon.
And Teacher G said yes dahil nakita naman daw niyang may mga potential.
“I really see the potential ’cause I’m not really gonna take this project if I don’t see the potential…just kidding,” patawang say niya.
One of the challenges lang— besides the intermittent face-to-face training early this year—is how to make the girls pliable to choreography. Dahil kahit na may innate dancing skills ang mga ito, buking daw na hindi marunong sumunod sa choreography.
But that was six months ago. Today, even the girls are amazed na kaya pala nilang mag-ala-G Force.
Well, there’s a lot more to improve, of course, but confident si Teacher G na in no time, mas mapa-polish pa ang limang mine-mentor niya ’cause they’re all “gutom.”
“They’re all hungry, and that’s what I love,” say ni Teacher G. Like last October 24, we had a shoot—a three-in-one-shoot: for the MTV, a photo shoot, and a digital marketing shoot…
“Sabi ko, ayokong ma-impress ’cause that’s work. But what made me really admire them, sa generation nila, wala akong nakikitang ganito. They’re hungry, they’re excited and they enjoy what they’re doing…excited sila palagi.
“Kaya nga LITZ ang name nila—Life in the sunshine. Kasi lagi silang excited.
“And they really surrender to the process. So, feeling ko, konti pa and bhaaam!”
Aminado si Teacher G na hinahanap pa nila ang tunog at identity ng LITZ and she and the girls are aware na bukod sa western pop, naging standard na rin ang K-Pop. Pero hangga’t maaari, gusto niyang ilayo, if she can, ang LITZ sa K-Pop comparison.
“We are still finding our space. Ive been reading comments, finding our sound…we’re not K-Pop. Our goal is to really define what P-Pop is,” seryosong explain ni Teacher G.
“I’m also a fan of anything K-pop…even K-Dramas. We’re all influenced by them, even ng Hollywood. We are admirers of their work. But if you’re saying that, we look like K-Pop, then I’m to doubting myself [as their mentor].
“I really want us to find our space in this music industry. I really want P-Pop to boom…Ang Pilipinas po, ang yaman natin agriculture, kahit ano itanim mo tutubo…” pag-a-analogy pa niya.
“Dito po, marami rin tayong talents. Everyone can sing, everyone can dance, everyone can act. It’s just a matter of kelan natin pahihinugin…lahat may kinang pero kelan sila mabibigyan ng chance to shine the brightest.
“I can tell there’s a standard but we really want to find our own look, our own sound. That’s the goal, that’s the challenge.”
Isa sa agad na kaibahan nila sa mga K-Pop stars is the life-work balance. Of course, rigid din ang training ng LITZ. In fact, sa training palang ng muscle conditioning, may isang tao nang nakatutok. But mas liberal. Well, that is if we are to believe ’yong mga nababasa natin training ng mga K-Pop artists.
For one, the LITZ girls were not housed in one residence. Hindi naman daw kailangan. Teacher G thinks na kailangan naman ng mga girls na may ibang makita at maka-usap. Hindi 24/7 na LITZ lang ang buhay nila.
Wala rin daw super-duper restrictions sa diet. In fact, mas binabantayan nila ang mental health ng mga girls.
“Healthy living and holistic approach kami,” say ni Teacher G. “For now, ang problem talaga is yang mga depression dahil sa lockdown, too much information sa social media…that can really make them depressed.
“So, lahat yan we always talk about it during breaks…we don’t just go to our phones, but we discuss what’s on the phone. Hahaha!
“Healthier approach. Hindi naman about diet lang para they have to fit their outfit? No. And it’s already 2021, thick onstage is also accepted and we love that. We love that.”
We love that Teacher G is treating the girls as young adults. Thus, as far as rules are concerned, no rules daw.
“We have no rules. Just communication and negotiations. ’Cause we teach the kids to be leaders. They just talk to me. If they want to get a tattoo, go. If they want to use cell phone during break, okay ako doon. Everything now is p’wedeng pag-usapan.”
And this, she says, include love life.
“There’s always time for love…ang sabi ko nga sa mga girls, ‘It’s nice to be inspired but once ma-distract na kayo, mawala ang focus ninyo, then it becomes a problem. So, how are we going to manage that? They need to manage that.
“I don’t want them to be restricted ’cause they will be rebels. But I want them to talk to me. It’s an open communication.
“There is always time for love. We need that…for us to be inspired, for us to have that natural glow. But there’s time for love, there’s time for dancing, for singing, there’s time for work.”
Muka namang goal-oriented ang mga girls. In fact, they’re one in saying they want to go global to promote OPM and P-Pop and their deadline is in three years’ time.
Based sa first output nilang “Natataranta,” malaki ang possibility. Hindi lang sila talented, they all look good on-cam. Hindi naman tayo mapapahiya.
We all just need to give them a chance.
