The 44-year old American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman, and fashion designer, whose legal name is Kanye Omari West, has personal reasons why he would change his name to simply Ye. The name change came as his divorce with ex-wife Kim Kardashian is moving forward. Kim, however, is still using the “West” last name in all her legal documents.
Kanye West is changing his legal name to Ye.
The 44-year old American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman, and fashion designer, whose legal name is Kanye Omari West, has personal reasons why he would change his name to simply Ye.
In order for the change of his legal name to happen, a judge in California would need to sign off on the petition.
Back in 2018, West announced on Twitter he would be changing his stage name to Ye, following the release of his Ye album.
West explained that Ye, besides being an abbreviation for his name, also has a religious significance to him.
“I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye, just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.”
The name change came as his divorce with ex-wife Kim Kardashian is moving forward. Kim, however, is still using the “West” last name in all her legal documents.
Anyway, on August 26, West is expected to hold the third listening party for his highly anticipated tenth studio album, Donda.
The event will be held at the Soldier Field in Chicago, where West incorporated a light blue building into the set that appears to be a replica of his childhood home.
Donda was originally set to be released in July 2020 before being pushed back a year and is named after his late mother, Donda West, who died at 58 following a plastic surgery complications in 2007.
In regards to his personal life, the Grammy winner’s brief relationship with Irina Shayk has ended. Their relationship, according to PEOPLE, was never a serious thing.
“Kanye has been busy working and spending time with his kids. This is his focus. He doesn’t have time to date right now. He finds Irina amazing though. They remain friendly,” according to a source.
West is maintaining a “friendly relationship” with ex-wife Kim. He further adds that they are “not getting back together.”
Sources from Kim’s camp say “Kim and Kanye have a friendly relationship. It’s always been important to Kim to have a good relationship with Kanye. They are not getting back together though. She accepted his lunch invitation earlier this week because they are at the point now when they can hang out. There are no hard feelings.”
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has showed support to her ex-husband and brought their four children to West’s first two listening parties.
