For timeless actor Albert Martinez, disiplina lang ang katapat ng pagiging matikas pa rin niya up to now. “I know for a fact, ito yung investment namin, kami sa industry—to make sure we stay fit, looking good… I guess that’s about it. Siguro konti about the genes, but then again, it’s all about discipline.”
Flattering para kay Albert Martinez na mabansagang “bampira.” Tila kasi hindi tumatanda ang aktor at sabi nga, e, yummy pa rin hanggang ngayon.
“Thank you. That’s a compliment,” nakangiting bungad niya sa amin when we asked the secret behind his intact desirability.
“I’m officially a senior citizen. I’m sixty years old with real white hair,” proud na dagdag ni Albert.
Thanks to his discipline dahil after forty years in the entertainment industry, matikas pa rin siya at kering-keri pang mag-disrobe gaya nang ginawa niya sa The Housemaid, sa maiinit na eksena nila ni Kylie Verzosa.
“Through the years kasi, even when I was young, talagang I’m into working out, eating properly, not abusing myself.
“And I know for a fact, ito yung investment namin, kami sa industry—to make sure we stay fit, looking good… I guess that’s about it.
“Siguro konti about the genes, but then again, it’s all about discipline.”
Kaya nga kung ang iba niyang mga kasabayan ay nag-uslian na ang tiyan o kaya naman ay natuyot, Albert has remained not just trimmed and toned, kundi healthy talaga.
And in all fairness to him, his discipline extends to constantly reinventing himself.
He says he simply can’t pass up on the chance to play such an intriguing role.
“It’s a film that every actor should accept. It’s a film na hindi mo puwedeng palampasin,” ani Albert, who played as the cold billionaire who had a sexual relationship with their housemaid, played by Kylie Verzosa.
“It’s really a beautiful material, well-written, and to think that the film was an entry to 2010 Cannes Film Festival.
“It’s very challenging for all of us, for me as an actor, for the director, for the entire cast.”
We told him na wala kaming makitang ibang aktor na babagayan noong role niya. Parang tailor-made for him. Effortless niyang nabigyang buhay ang cold, manipulative, at barely-talking characteristic ng kanyang role. And because the role necessitates nga ng disrobing from his end, he had no qualms, too, dahil pleasing pa rin onscreen ang kanyang physique.
But Albert doesn’t want to grab the credits all to himself. Ensemble cast umano sila sa The Housemaid—na tutoo naman. At isa din yon sa dahilan why he was happy that the role was offered to him.
“We did so well. I’m so happy for the team,” saad niya, “And kung pinalampas ko ito, ito ’yung malaking pagsisisihan ko for the rest of my life.”
Slow burn ang pelikulang The Housemaid pero hindi mo bibitawan dahil sa husay nang pagganap ng buong cast, which includes Alma Moreno, Jaclyn Jose, and the talented Elia Ilano. Mga master of nuances. Maging ang relatively newbie na si Kylie as the title role ay hindi nagpakabog sa mga beteranong ka-eksena niya. It helps, too, that the camera loves her. Walang tapon na angle. It’s an intriguing piece.
