Ani Dra. Mangahas sa Manila Times, she guided the whole process.
“By then, Arjo was already experiencing difficulty in breathing besides fever and body malaise.
“I talked to Sylvia [Sanchez, Arjo’s mom] and told her she had two options: the first was a work up and possible admission at a Baguio hospital or a transfer to Manila for work up and possible admission, with the provisions I indicated earlier.
“She chose the second one because of his preexisting conditions of chronic sinusitis and asthma and her fear that should Arjo become critical, he is so far away and she wouldn’t personally know the physician who will treat him.”
“In the same way that emergency care personnel in an ambulance would accompany a Covid patient in PPE (personal protective equipment), I was also very clear with my instructions—and which they carefully followed—to have Arjo in the back of the car alone, his companions in front of the car, with all of them wearing masks with no removal and all the windows open, driving strictly from Baguio straight to our hospital,” paliwanag ni Dra. Mangahas.
“It is impossible for any doctor of any COVID patient to go ahead with decisions without considering the family because this really imposes a traumatic situation on everyone,” patuloy ni Dra. Mangahas sa Manila Times.
“On a personal note, Sylvia and Art Atayde [mga magulang ni Arjo] both had COVID last March 2020, and Sylvia even suffered from complications of the medications.”
“COVID was a real scare for them, especially with the thought of leaving behind four children with their youngest only at 10 years old at that time if one of them didn’t survive the virus.
“Please understand that [Sylvia] only acted as a mother in her decision. Having suffered from COVID themselves, they are the last persons who would wish that others will go through the same experience. So clearly, there was no intention to breach any protocol, and more so expose others to COVID.”
“We had a patient recently flown in from Laoag to receive treatment here and there were no allegations regarding breach of protocols,” pahayag pa ni Dra. Mangahas.
Samantala, namagitan na rin ni Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairperson Liza Diño para mas magkalinawan sina Mayor Magalong at ang Feelmaking Productions, as represented by its production head, Ellen Criste.
“As FDCP has been informed of the incident with the Feelmaking Production in Baguio City, I personally reached out to Mayor Benjie Magalong to discuss the details and how we can help address the concerns,” panimula ni Chair Liza sa FB.
“Mayor Magalong informed me himself that the Feelmaking Productions team has been closely coordinating with the City of Baguio already through producer Ellen Criste and that matters have been settled.”
“As regards to the case of Mister Arjo Atayde, the Mayor acknowledged the actions of his family to rush him to the hospital. Any worried parent would react the same but at the same time, he reiterated the importance of compliance to the protocols set by the government to ensure the safety of the community. He also emphasized that while Baguio has been accommodating to film shoots, restrictions are in place to keep everyone safe and that must be strictly followed.
“This was a lesson learned for everyone and that while there may be lapses, it’s important to take accountability and it’s good that the production is coordinating closely with the City.”
“Finally, and for me, isang napakagandang balita para sa ating sektor, Mayor Magalong asked me to share with the film sector that Baguio is still open to production shoots and that filming is welcome as long as coordinated properly with relevant agencies like FDCP and DOLE and most importantly, the City of Baguio.”
“He also said that should the Feelmaking production team choose to finish their production in Baguio, they may still do as long as details are properly coordinated with the City and compliance to protocols will be strictly observed.
“We hope that this addresses all matters related to the incident. Let’s all wish for Arjo’s fast recovery as he is still in the hospital being treated for covid-19.”
Bilang pagtatapos, idinagdag niya ang new filming guidelines under MECQ bilang paalala.
“P.S. As of today, August 21, productions shoots are allowed under MECQ conditions as per DOLE-DTI-DOH JAO at 50 pax maximum per day.”
“Let’s all practice SAFE FILMING!”
