Matapos gulantangin ni Kris Aquino ang sambayanan noong Linggo, October 24, sa pag-a-announce niya ng kanyang engagement kay former DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) secretary Mel Sarmiento ay sumalang naman silang dalawa sa isang Q&A with Kris’s son Bimby.
Feeling daw kasi niya Kris ay maraming tanong ang kanyang mga loyal followers and she owes them some answers dahil sila naman ang kasa-kasama niya sa lahat ng milestones, and even disappointments sa buhay niya.
Nalambingan at nakumbinse niya ang kanyang fiancé na humarap sa publiko para ilahad ang kanilang love story through a two-part Instagram video post na in-upload kahapon, October 28.
Sa part 1 ng interbyuhan, si Kris ang mismong nagbisto na “out of the blue, he just kissed me” kaya napasagot siya nito.
Bimby, who seems to be learning the details along with the public, happily declared na swabe raw ang kanyang Tito Mel at “may balls.”

But that’s getting ahead of the story.
The balls, as far as getting Kris’s attention was concerned, grew much later on.
Dahil noong una, torpe din ang dating gabinete.
It turned out, secret crush na pala niya si Kris noon pa. Kaya noong ma-meet umano niya in person for the first time sa Bahay Pangarap sa Malacanang Palace compound, tameme ito.
Magkahalong “starstruck” at takot sa Boss niyang si former president Noynoy Aquino ang nanaig sa kanya kaya ni hindi siya makasalita, na naka-puzzle kay Kris.
“When and how did you first meet?” tanong ni Bimby sa newly-engaged couple.
“Of course the former president introduces me to her,” pagre-recall ni Mr., Mel. “S’yempre nag-aalangan ako dahil ’andiyan si Sir.”
“So, na-starstruck ka?” sundot ni Bimby.
“Sobra, sobra…” pag-amin naman ng kanyang future stepdad.
“Kasi Bimb, we would ride in the same helicopter and then kuwento ako nang kuwento sa kanya but how come hindi niya ako pinapansin?
“And it was so weird because parang sabi ko, ‘Most people kapag kinukuwentuhan ko and I ask questions parang natutuwa naman to talk to me?’ And siya talaga would ignore me,” tila nagmamaktol na recall ni Kris.
“Ignore you?” hindi makapaniwalang tanong ni Bimby.
“Yeah,” kumpirma ni Kris. “Parang one question… [one answer] and it’s really short. So I had to ask the staff, ‘Shy ba siya talaga o ano ba talaga? And then I said, ‘I don’t think naman he’s gay kasi if he’s gay, e, di natuwa na siya sa akin?” natatawang balik-tanaw ni Tetay.
“O, ikaw na magsabi,” susog ni Kris sa mapapangasawa.
“S’yempre admittedly crush ko siya,” pag-amin ng groom-to-be. “So, napapanood mo sa TV tapos biglang nasa harap mo. Tapos boss ko pa Kuya [Noy] niya.
“Nu’ng nasa tabi [ko] na siya, hindi ako makapagsalita. Kapag nasa isang lugar naman kami, she would start talking to me but si Sir nandiyan baka magalit. Hahaha!”
“So, takot ka kay Tito Noy?” muling hirit ni Bimby.
“Starstruck sa kanya [tapos], takot din kay [PNoy],” nakangiting amin pa rin niya.
Hinikayat din ni Kris ang kanyang husband-to-be na i-share ang isang cute detail ng “crushing” moment ni Mr. Mel sa kanya na naganap pa noong huling SONA (State of the Nation Adddres) ni PNoy noong July 2015.
Present daw ang magkakapatid na Aquino at present din si Mr. Mel. Nasa iisang kuarto umano sila noon and secretly, Mr. Mel snapped a photo of the whole family using his smart phone at pagkatapos ay singingel out nitong i-crop si Kris para magkaroon siya ng solo picture nito. Isa itong detalye na paniguradong nagpakilig kay Kris noong ipinagtapat ito sa kanya ni Mr. Mel later on.
“When you sleep at night you look at my mom’s picture?” tukso ni Bimby.
Tila nanunuksong hirit naman ni Kris, “Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Naka-ilang out of town tayo bakit hindi mo ako pinansin? You could have gotten my number already.’ Because at that time I was single.”
Pero dahil magkahalo nga ang starstruck at takot kay PNoy kaya never naka-porma si Mr. Mel.
“How did you two reconnect?” tanong muli ni Bimby.
Malungkot ang scenario ng muli nilang pagkikita dahil naganap pala iyon sa araw ng pagkamatay ng dating pangulo noong June 24, 2021.
Matapos noon ay may pagkakataong nakapunta si Mr. Mel sa kanyang bahay to present something. Dito naaala ni Kris ang kidnap threat sa kanila noong 2016 at naisip niyang Mr. Mel may have the unsanitized version ng mga detalye. Na-curious lang siyang malaman. Thus, she befriended Mr. Mel for that purpose.
“So, I felt kung mapi-friend ko siya, he’d spill the beans. Kung mapipilit ko ’to, mapipilit ko to tell me the truth. And I will not go into details kasi it’s a matter of national security and yes, he did give me the truth and it made me love Tito Noy so much. That’s all I can say.
“And he started coming here more often,” dagdag ni Kris. “Because it took the third dinner for me to finally get him to talk.”
Pumunta raw muna pala kasi si Mr. Mel sa puntod ng dating boss para magpaalam.
Pero dahil nakakapag-balik-balik na si Mr. Mel sa bahay ni Kris, nararamdaman niyang may kakaibang sumisibol sa dibdib niya.
“S’yempre naisip ko baka magalit si Sir [PNoy], baka multuhin ako,” natatawang k’wento niya. “Nagparamdam pa naman ’yun after ng libing niya.
“So, I went to the cemetery and was like talking to him, telling him about what’s going on. I wanted first to control myself [to fall in love] pero wala, e. Kasi naisip ko siya baka magalit sa akin,” pagtatapat nito.
“Tito Mel, how did you know that mama was the right one for you?” tanong ni Bimb.
“Nasabi kong siya kasi ’yung nararamdaman ko sa loob, I’m so happy and lahat na-notice ’yun, e. People who are very close to me say, ‘Alam mo ang tagal na kitang kakilala… My nieces would say, ‘Ibang ngiti mo ngayon, ah?’
“Kasi parang ang hirap i-explain pero sinasabi ko sa sarili ko, siya!” malumanay na paliwanag nito.
“Wow, swabe!” tila kinikilig na banat ni Bimby. “Mr. Swabe. Hahaha!”
Ani pa ng dating DILG Secretary, dahil daw kay Kris ay natuto siyang balansehin ang buhay niya at hindi puro trabaho lang. Dahil in love, he makes sure to make time for Kris.
In fact, para patunayang sobrang mahal niya si Kris ay lahat ng gustong panoorin nito na KDrama—including Squid Games—ay pinapanood na rin ni Mr. Mel.
“For me, it’s good to have someone to discuss CNN with, local politics with,” sabi ng mama ni Bimb.
At dahil nga focused ang in love na si Mr. Mel, nakuha raw mag-sorry ni Kris sa mga anak nito for taking so much of their dad’s time away from them.
“I said sorry to them, they’re not seeing their dad as often and I was really touched when they said, ‘Thank you’ because they said they’ve never seen their dad as happy. And I really felt that they must really super love their dad for them to say that.
“Then when they left, I was in the bathroom and was really crying because I couldn’t imagine two boys near Kuya’s [Joshua Aquino] age saying that, na thanking me for making their dad happy.
“So, parang sabi ko, ‘Oh, this is something.’ I just felt really, really touched by that,” pagtatapat ni Kris.
Matapos noon ay pinasalamatan ni Kris ang anak sa caption ng post para sa napakahusay nitong interview. Kinausap din niya ang kanyang mga fans.
Aniya, Mr. Mel changed her kaya hindi na umano siya ma- overshare. Ipinangako nalang niya na ang next video’ng ipo-post nila ay ang kasalan na nila.
“As I have always said, my sons and I wouldn’t have the life we have had it not been for your love and loyalty. Pinakiusapan ko si Mel, na utang ko ’to sa inyo.
“So we compromised-pumayag s’ya but said after this ’yung next video ’yung wedding na namin and of course I agreed.
“That’s how much he has changed me-I now know it’s not all about me, it’s definitely a give and take, and it really should always be about US.
“Magpapalakas muna, maghahanda sa nalalapit naming paglipat at maraming pong pag iisipan. Until our next surprise. #lovelovelove.”
