The word “gamol,” was popularized in the 90s by comedian/rapper and modern wordsmith Andrew E. It was given the meaning dirty or disgusting. Pero p’wede ring wais o streetsmart. Madiskarte but not necessarily masamang tao.
In the case of 90’s comedy film, Pitong Gamol, the seven characters— Herbert Bautista, Gelli de Belen, Dennis Padilla, Andrew E., Ogie Alcasid, Anjo Yllana, and Ruby Rodriguez—they are such: mga streetsmart con artists involved in petty crimes to survive.
They are bound by their commonality na pare-pareho silang orphans na ang itinuturing na pamilya, maliban sa isa’t isa, ay ang neighborhood na kanilang kinalakihan.
Life treats them harshly but they survive. And how!
And that’s by being constantly in trouble.
All seven found a mentor in Sgt. Dimabili (Jimmy Santos), who believes they could still reform under his guidance.
When an attempt was made on his life, na pakana ng kaaway niyang drug syndicate leader na si Madonna (Carmi Martin), the gamols did their best to rescue him and sent him to faith healer Mang Kulas (Dennis Padilla) for treatment.
When Sgt. Dimabili was fully recovered, he vows to take revenge. The gamols volunteer to help him. Thus, they trained in military weapons and tactics. Armed with military knowledge, would the street-smart group be able to defeat Madonna’s syndicate and bring them to justice?
Dito na magsisimula ang mga riot na katatawanan involving our very own version of the brat pack.
